Catalyst Black shuts down Nov. 30, 2026, and it's already off the app stores

Super Evil Megacorp is closing Catalyst Black on Nov. 30, 2026. Downloads and in-app purchases ended Oct. 30. What still works, refunds, and what happens to your account.

Catalyst Black, Super Evil Megacorp's mobile team shooter, is closing. The studio posted the notice on October 30, 2026: the servers go dark on November 30, 2026, and player accounts close with them.

The store side already happened. As of October 30, in-app purchases are closed and the game is gone from the App Store, Google Play and the Galaxy Store. If it's installed, it still works for one more month. If it isn't, it won't be.

What happens and when

  • October 30, 2026: In-app purchases end. The game is pulled from all three app stores. Installed copies keep working.
  • November 30, 2026: Servers shut down. The game can no longer be played. Accounts close.
  • By December 31, 2026: Super Evil says it will delete the personal data tied to Catalyst Black accounts, keeping only anonymous play statistics.

There's no mention of an offline mode, and given the game was built around online matches, there isn't much to be offline with.

Can I get a refund?

Possibly, but not from Super Evil. The studio says refund requests go through whichever store you bought from, under that store's own policy: Apple's Report a Problem page, Google Play's refund help, or Galaxy Store support inside the Galaxy Store app. Nothing in the notice promises refunds for currency or items bought before October 30. Store policies on old purchases tend to be short and unsentimental.

Don't count on customer support either. The official help center now says support for the game has ended. Data questions go to privacy@superevilmegacorp.com.

Is Catalyst Black dead?

It has been in hospice for a while. Super Evil's own FAQ already said active development had stopped and there would be no further updates beyond keeping the game listed on the app stores. Now it isn't listed on the app stores, so that last job is done too.

The game launched worldwide on May 25, 2022 on iOS and Android. It was the follow-up to Vainglory, the studio's touchscreen MOBA, and it had a decent pitch: team battles across the floating Welkin Islands, 30-plus guns, and "primals," big creatures you could turn into mid-match to flatten the other team. Modes included Hydra (players and bosses in one fight), Slayer and Eventide. It got a spot in Apple's iPhone 13 keynote, which is about as much mainstream exposure as a mobile shooter gets before launch.

On launch day, CEO Kristian Segerstrale called the release "just the start of the adventure." The adventure ends four and a half years later, a month after the notice, with the store pages already gone.

What to do before November 30

  • If you still have it installed and want one last match, play it in November. After the 30th the app will just fail to connect.
  • If you want a refund, file it with your app store now. Waiting until after the shutdown won't help your case.
  • There's no account transfer or export. Screenshots of your loadout are about all you can keep.
