D&D's Sigil shuts down today, and your campaigns go with it

Wizards of the Coast's 3D D&D virtual tabletop Sigil shuts down after Oct. 31, 2026. There's no export tool, and campaigns, maps and notes made in Sigil will be inaccessible. What you can still save.

Today, October 31, 2026, is the last day of Sigil, Wizards of the Coast's 3D virtual tabletop for Dungeons & Dragons. The official Sigil Sunset FAQ says Sigil "will remain available through October 31, 2026." After that the servers shut down, and "all content created within Sigil will no longer be accessible."

The FAQ doesn't give a time zone for the cutoff. If you're planning a final session tonight, plan it early.

Can I export my Sigil campaigns?

No. The FAQ asks itself whether Sigil creations will be saved or transferred elsewhere, and answers in one word: "No." There's no export tool. Wizards' official advice is to take screenshots of images you want "for posterity" and copy important notes and journal entries somewhere else.

So today's checklist is short and manual:

  • Screenshot your maps, scenes and any minis setups you care about.
  • Copy journal entries and campaign notes into a doc, a notes app, or anything with a save button that will still work tomorrow.
  • Don't wait for a last-minute export feature. Nothing in the FAQ hints at one.

Your D&D Beyond account, character sheets and purchased books are separate from Sigil and stay where they are.

What did Wizards offer players?

Three things, mostly already handed out:

  • Six months of free Master Tier for anyone who used a paid or trial Master Tier subscription to access Sigil at least once between March 1 and October 23, 2025. The redemption deadline was January 6, 2026, and the FAQ says that offer has now expired.
  • A Sigil Dragon digital dice set for customers who pre-ordered the 2024 Core Rulebook bundle and got the Sigil-exclusive Gold Dragon digital miniature. Codes went out by email on January 28, 2026.
  • A Sigil Dragon character sheet backdrop for every registered D&D Beyond user.

That's the compensation. There's no refund program in the FAQ.

Is Sigil dead?

As of tomorrow, completely. The shutdown was announced on October 23, 2025, and it was not much of a surprise then. Sigil was an Unreal Engine 5 virtual tabletop with heavy hardware demands, and it entered beta in early 2025 to a lukewarm reception. According to Geek Native, Wizards laid off roughly 90% of the Sigil team about three weeks after that beta went live. The project spent the rest of its life with a skeleton crew and a known end date.

Wizards' stated reason in the FAQ is that it "couldn't sustain the level of ongoing support or the quality standard you deserve," and that ending development lets it focus on "the best future digital D&D experiences possible." Geek Native noted at the time that the shutdown didn't affect Wizards' separate 2D Maps VTT.

Where do Sigil groups go now?

Wherever the rest of online D&D already is: Wizards' own 2D Maps tool on D&D Beyond, or one of the established third-party virtual tabletops. None of them can import a Sigil campaign, because there's nothing to import from. You're rebuilding from your screenshots either way.

Sigil lasted about a year and a half from beta to shutdown, a year of that already scheduled for death. Today's the last day to look at your dungeon in 3D.
