Fortis Games is shutting down Twilight Towers, its mobile tower-defense-with-merging game, on Monday, November 16, 2026. The studio posted the news on November 4, and the same day pulled the game from the App Store and Google Play and turned off in-app purchases. If it's still on your phone, you get twelve more days of waves.
Is Twilight Towers shutting down?
Yes. Per the official sunset announcement:
- November 4, 2026: Removed from app stores. In-app purchases disabled. Existing installs keep working.
- November 16, 2026: Servers go offline. The game stops being playable.
- Through November 30, 2026: Fortis says player support stays reachable at support@fortisgames.com and its help center, even though the game itself will be gone.
The Discord stays open for now. Fortis says it will close the Twilight Towers channels eventually, "but not right away," which is the most honest timeline in the whole post.
Why it's closing
The studio didn't dress it up. "Despite our best efforts, we just weren't seeing strong enough player retention to make the game sustainable," Fortis wrote. It also acknowledged asking players to "endure a lot along the way, including progress resets and map changes" while it reworked major systems.
That's standard live-service math. A free-to-play mobile game needs a steady flow of people who stick around and occasionally pay. When they don't stick around, every server bill and content update is money spent keeping the lights on in an empty room.
A short run
Twilight Towers was Fortis Games' first game. The company announced its soft launch in September 2025, starting in the Philippines and Mexico. Fortis said at the time that the game was built on the foundation of an acquisition it made the year before, and that about a half dozen more games were in development behind it.
So the opener of a half-dozen-game slate lasted a little over a year from soft launch to shutdown. Soft launches exist to find out whether players stay. This one found out.
Can I get a refund?
Maybe. Fortis says refunds "aren't usually offered when a game is retired" but points players to the stores:
- iPhone/iPad: Request through Apple. Fortis says it can't process App Store refunds itself.
- Android: Request through Google Play, or contact Fortis player support for help.
No promises either way. Apple and Google decide under their own policies.
What to do before November 16
- Spend everything. Fortis dropped a parting gift of Gems, Automators and free energy into every player's inbox. Currency and chests are worth nothing after the 16th.
- Don't uninstall. It's off the stores, so a deleted copy can't be reinstalled.
- Screenshot your kingdom if you care. Nothing about the save survives the shutdown.
After November 16, Twilight Towers joins the long list of soft-launched mobile games that never got a global launch. The towers held. The retention didn't.
