Warborne Above Ashes is shutting down. Qooland Games announced on Steam that the free-to-play PvP MMO will end service on April 29, 2027, at 06:00 UTC. In US time zones that's the night of April 28: 11 PM Pacific, or 2 AM Eastern on the 29th.
The more urgent date is tomorrow. On October 30, 2026, at 06:00 UTC (11 PM Pacific tonight, October 29), downloads and new account registrations close on every platform. If you've never installed it and want to see what it was, you have until then.
The timeline
From Qooland's notice:
- Now: In-game purchases are disabled on all platforms. You can't buy Solarbite, the premium currency, or anything else.
- October 30, 2026, 06:00 UTC: Downloads and new accounts close. Existing players can keep logging in.
- April 29, 2027, 06:00 UTC: Servers go offline. "After this time, the game will no longer be accessible."
Between now and then, the studio says it will bring back "a variety of cosmetic content" and run bonus events, with details in an FAQ it hasn't posted yet.
Can I still play?
Yes, if you already have an account. Qooland says "all existing game content will continue to be fully accessible" until the end. That's six months of a game with a closed store and no new players coming in, which is about as calm as an open-world PvP game gets.
If you don't have an account yet, you have until tomorrow's cutoff. After that, you can't download the client or register.
Is there an offline mode?
No. Nothing in the announcement mentions offline play, private servers, or any version that survives the shutdown. Warborne is built around large-scale faction war, territory fights and extraction runs against other players, so there wasn't much to keep offline in the first place.
Do I get a refund?
The notice doesn't offer one. It says Solarbite you already own can still be spent in the game until it closes. It doesn't mention refunds for unused currency, so plan to spend it. If the FAQ changes that, we'll update this.
How did it get here?
Warborne launched on Steam on September 18, 2025, and also on Epic and Qooland's own launcher, as a fantasy-meets-post-apocalypse "loot and extract MMO." Through its first year it went through several seasons, merged six factions down to two, and later added an extraction mode it called Abyssal Scavenge Run.
Then the updates stopped. In June 2026, Qooland posted that "we ran into a number of serious operational and business challenges" and that "Warborne Above Ashes will cease all further content updates." The servers would stay up, it said, and "the battlefield will remain here for you." Massively Overpowered reported at the time that the game was seeing about 1,000 concurrent players.
Almost five months later, the studio said it had kept "closely monitoring" the game and, "after further evaluation of our future operational plans," set an end date. Games that stop getting content usually get a shutdown date eventually. This one got it in under half a year.
The short version
Warborne Above Ashes is free, Windows-only, and closing. You can't buy anything now. You can't download it or make an account after 06:00 UTC on October 30. If you're already in, you can play everything until 06:00 UTC on April 29, 2027. Spend any Solarbite you have, because nothing in the notice says you'll get it back.
