Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches tomorrow, Friday, October 23, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. It is not coming to PS4 or Xbox One. That makes this the week a lot of last-gen players start asking whether Warzone just shut off on them.
It didn't. You have two more weeks.
When does Warzone stop working on PS4 and Xbox One?
Activision's support FAQ says Warzone stays playable on PS4 and Xbox One "through the end of Season 06 for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7," and stops being playable when Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 begins. Activision has confirmed that Season 1 starts Friday, November 6, 2026, per Windows Central. The final Black Ops 7 battle pass shows a November 5 end date.
So November 5 is realistically your last full day. Activision hasn't published an exact cutoff hour.
The game launching tomorrow changes nothing on last-gen. Warzone has always picked up the new Call of Duty at Season 1, and that's where the last-gen versions end.
What already happened
This has been a slow fade, done in stages:
- June 4, 2026: Warzone was pulled from the PS4 and Xbox One stores. If it isn't already in your library, you can't download it. COD Points, BlackCell and other real-money items left the in-game store, and the Battle Pass stopped being purchasable with COD Points.
- June 25, 2026: The Warzone in-game store was removed on both consoles entirely.
- Since then: Free Battle Pass tiers kept working, so the game stayed playable with nothing left to buy.
What happens to my progress and COD Points?
Your progress carries over. Activision says full progression and content bought with COD Points move to any supported platform, as long as you play on the same linked Activision account.
COD Points themselves are pickier. They're tied to your platform account, so unspent PS4 points are redeemable on PS5, and unspent Xbox One points on Xbox Series X|S, under the same account. Same goes for most content bought with real money. Moving from PS4 to an Xbox, or to PC, doesn't bring those points along.
If you're on last-gen and haven't linked an Activision account, do that before November 6.
Is Warzone dead?
On PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, no. It gets Modern Warfare 4 content and seasonal progression starting with Season 1. On PS4 and Xbox One, yes, effective with Season 1.
That's the trade with a free-to-play shooter attached to a yearly premium release: the shooter is free, but its lifespan on your console is set by whether next year's game ships there.
