Ramen VR has set a date for the end of Zenith, the VR MMO it stopped developing in 2024. According to the studio's announcement on Wednesday, October 21, the servers stay online until 10:00 AM PST on Friday, December 18, 2026. After that they "permanently go offline and the live service game will not be accessible."
That covers both the free-to-play Zenith: Nexus and the paid Zenith: The Last City content. The game is on Steam, Meta and PlayStation VR, per Delisted Games.
When does Zenith shut down?
December 18, 2026, at 10:00 AM Pacific. Before that, there are two other dates worth knowing:
- October 21, 2026: New sales of Zenith: The Last City (the paid DLC) and Zennies, the premium currency, ended on all platforms. This already happened.
- November 18, 2026: Last day new players can get the free version, Zenith: Nexus. After that, nobody new can download it.
- December 18, 2026, 10:00 AM PST: Servers go offline.
Can I still play Zenith?
Yes, for about eight more weeks. Existing players keep access until the servers close. If you've never played and want to see it before it goes, you have until November 18 to grab the free version.
Expect what you'd expect from a game that has been on life support for two years. Ramen VR says new content development ended in August 2024 and active player support ended in September 2024, though the team "will continue to provide support when we can" until shutdown.
What happens to my Zennies and DLC?
You can keep spending Zennies in-game until the servers close. The announcement doesn't mention refunds. Once the servers are down, there's nothing left to spend them on, and The Last City content goes with the rest of the game.
Will there be an offline mode or private servers?
"No, not at this time," says Ramen VR. Zenith is an online-only MMO, so when the servers go, the game goes.
Why is Zenith shutting down?
The short version is money. Back in July 2024 Ramen VR said Zenith had drawn "hundreds of thousands of players," but most of them stopped after about a month, and the game had started losing money, per its support FAQ. It ended development and promised to keep the shards running "for the foreseeable future," with the community to be told "far in advance" if that changed, UploadVR reported at the time.
Two years later, the new notice says "it isn't feasible for us to continue running the servers at a loss." Eight weeks is a reasonable definition of far in advance.
Is Zenith dead?
Development died in 2024. December 18 is when the servers catch up. Zenith was one of the more ambitious attempts at a full MMO in VR, and it ran on Steam since January 2022. It will end the way most online games end: with a date, a FAQ, and a currency you can't buy anymore.
